How to send qualified B2B leads back to Google Ads

Track the form with enhanced conversions for leads, import the CRM stage you trust every day, and bid on qualified leads instead of every form fill.

To make Google Ads bid for qualified B2B leads, track your form with enhanced conversions for leads, mark the leads your team qualifies in the CRM, and import that stage back into Google Ads every day as its own conversion action. Google matches each imported lead to its ad click through the hashed email the form already sent. Once enough qualified leads come through, you bid on those, and the form fill becomes a secondary signal.

A form fill is the conversion the tag can see, so it's the one an account starts with. It also counts a student, a competitor and a spam bot exactly like a buyer. Bidding learns from whatever you count, so count the lead your sales team would call back.

What enhanced conversions for leads does

Google describes enhanced conversions for leads as "an upgraded version of offline conversion import". When someone fills in your form, the Google tag sends Google a hashed version of the email or phone number they typed. Later, when that lead reaches a stage you care about in your CRM, you import the same hashed email, plus the click ID if you stored it, and Google matches the two back to the ad.

Against the old import that relied on the click ID alone, Google lists greater durability, more accurate reporting, and engaged-view and cross-device conversions. In practice it means a lead still matches when the click ID got lost on the way into your CRM.

Set it up in four steps

  1. Tag the form. Put the Google tag or Tag Manager on every page with a lead form, turn on enhanced conversions for leads and collect the email, the phone, or both. Google's implementation checklist asks for SHA-256 hashing and normalized emails, so check both if you build any part of the upload yourself.
  2. Create one conversion action per CRM stage. The checklist's own examples are "Qualified Lead" and "Converted Lead". Start each one as a secondary conversion, which Google recommends for the first two to three weeks, so it reports without steering bids.
  3. Connect the CRM in Data Manager. In Google Ads, open Tools, then Data manager, and connect your source. Data Manager has connectors for HubSpot, Salesforce and Zoho CRM, plus Google Sheets, BigQuery and file transfers. Map the CRM stage to its conversion action and schedule the import daily, which Google calls "strongly recommended".
  4. Check the match. The enhanced conversions for leads diagnostics report shows whether imported leads are matching. Then segment campaign reports by the new conversion action to see qualified leads per campaign.

Two more lines on the checklist decide whether the numbers hold. Upload every conversion for the stage, including leads that didn't come from Google Ads, and include the click ID whenever you have it.

If you built your own upload on the Google Ads API, Google's Ads Developer Blog announced in May 2026 that offline click conversion imports move to the Data Manager API from 15 June 2026. A CRM connected through Data Manager doesn't need that work.

Pick the stage you'll bid on

Choose the stage your team decides on within days and that you get often enough to bid on. A closed deal is the truest signal, and it can take months to arrive. If sales accepts or rejects a lead within a week, the qualified lead fits both tests.

Volume decides whether automated bidding can use it. Our guide to setting a target CPA covers the conversion counts Google asks for before Target CPA bidding works. Below them, keep bidding on the form fill and leave qualified leads as a secondary conversion until the count grows. Expect a delay, too: a qualified lead lands days after the click, so measure that lag before you judge a week of results.

Then set a target CPA on qualified leads

Once qualified leads are the primary conversion, the target changes meaning. Say one form fill in four becomes a qualified lead and you pay $80 per form fill. Each qualified lead costs you $320 today, and that's the number to set your target against, worked back from what a qualified lead is worth to you. Make the move gradually: we covered how in switching to Target CPA bidding without tanking your campaign.

Your reports will show fewer conversions at a higher cost each, because you're counting fewer, better things. The numbers to watch are qualified leads per month from Google Ads and what each one costs. And once you can see which searches bring those leads, the paid and organic report shows which of them a page could win without a price per click.
