Resource

Google ranking updates, confirmed and dated.

Google announces every ranking update it confirms on the Search Status Dashboard, with a start date, an end date, and a note on what changed. This page reads that feed and keeps the list current, so you can tell a real rollout from a bad week.

What to do about it

How to read a rollout without overreacting.

  1. Check the dates first.

Line your traffic drop up against the window above. If your decline started three weeks before the rollout opened, the update did not cause it and the fix is somewhere else.

  2. Wait for it to close.

Rankings keep moving for as long as an update runs, and the table shows those runs lasting anywhere from a day to several weeks. Changes you make on day three get judged against a SERP that has not settled.

  3. Compare by query, not by total.

A flat sitewide number hides the story. Pull the query view in Search Console for the rollout window and the four weeks before it, and look at which intents moved. Losing informational queries and holding commercial ones is a different problem from the reverse.

  4. Write down what you shipped.

Keep a dated log of your own changes next to this list. Most arguments about whether an update hurt you end the moment someone can point at what went live that week.
